How it was validated
A value only counts as confirmed here when it moved with something done on purpose and written down at the time, or matched what the dash showed. Standard means the OBD-II formula, with values that look right but were not checked against anything else. Probable means it behaves the way the thing it is named for would, unchecked.
The captures
All on 2026-10-18, times local (UTC−5), car parked unless noted.
| Time | Length | Frames | What |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10:48:51 | 32 s | 5,948 | Standard PIDs at idle |
| 10:52:11 | 4 min 32 s | 51,778 | Standard PIDs on a short drive in town, 0–45 km/h |
| 11:00:54 | 48 s | 1,038 | Module scan: every request id 700–7FF, then identification |
| 11:02:16 | 1 min 8 s | 8,362 | Every local id 00–FF of every module, once |
| 11:06:49 | 8 min 37 s | 49,632 | Every module’s blocks read over and over while braking and shifting on cue (below) |
Later, a three-hour drive with a reader polling the standard PIDs, the
gear and the brake (not logged frame by frame) settled two more things: boost
peaked right at the PID 0B cap (about 22.5 psi), and the fuel-level guess
never moved.
Braking and shifting on cue
The 11:06 session. The driver did one thing at a time for 15 seconds, marking
the start and end of each; every module’s live blocks were read about every
2.5 s (784 and 7E1 every 2.5 s, the rest less often). What each candidate
read inside each window:

The other two brake switches (773/20 byte 1 and 7E1/06 byte 1)
followed the 784 one in every window. From the parking-brake window on, the
foot stayed on the brake, which is why the pressure sits near 6,000 there.
(The parking-brake window also caught the first shift out of P at its very
end: byte 28 read R, then N.)
In the manual-gate window, byte 14 read 02 in one more sample than byte 13
did: it moved to the new gear first. That fits byte 13 trailing a shift by
1–2 s.
Also noted during the session, from the dash: 8 of 12 fuel bars lit, odometer 38218 (the cluster block read 38,218.1), outside temperature 30 °C.
The standard PIDs
0C, 0D, 0B, 33, 05, 0F, 10, 23, 42 decode with the standard
formulas and read what an idling and then driven diesel should (ranges on
Standard OBD-II). 11 was ruled out as the pedal because it
reads 100 % at idle with the foot off; 49 reads 0 then.
What did not hold up
- Fuel level,
763local05byte 12. It read48(72) with 8 of 12 bars lit. It held exactly that through the three-hour drive, so it is something else. - Standard PIDs
2F(fuel level) andA4(gear). Not in either ECU’s support bitmaps.
